Australian Coffee Roasting Championship

The Australian Coffee Roasting Championship is Australia’s national roasting competition, run by the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ASCA). Held annually, the championship determines Australia’s top roaster and selects the country’s representative for the World Coffee Roasting Championship.

How the Competition Works

The competition runs in two phases. Roasters submit coffees in a preliminary round evaluated by certified cuppers. The top finalists advance to a two day live final, where each competitor roasts a single origin coffee, roasts a blend, and demonstrates cupping and evaluation skills before a judging panel. Scores across all stages determine the champion.

Past Winners

Australian Roasting Championship competitors roast standardized green lots provided by the organizers. The competition coffee is not their own product. The links below go to each champion’s commercial roastery.
