Trude Skjold Løken Wins Norwegian Coffee Roasting Championship 2026

by

Trude Skjold Løken, head roaster at Kaffa in Oslo, won Norway’s 2026 national coffee roasting championship, NM i Kaffebrenning, on May 12, adding a national title to the Nordics Best Roaster award Kaffa picked up just months earlier.

The Coffee

NM i Kaffebrenning finalists each roast a mandatory single origin and a blend supplied for the competition, judged blind by a sensory panel; the competition coffees themselves aren’t for sale. Kaffa’s own retail range, roasted in Oslo since 2005, is where to find Løken’s work.

The Win

NM i Kaffebrenning is organized by SCA Norway. The 2026 finals ran over three days in May at Rebel’s facilities in Norway, with six roasters advancing to compete; Løken was announced the winner on May 12. She has worked in specialty coffee since 2012 and moved from bar work into production roasting in 2016, finishing ahead of Ayae Maki Fredheim of Hibi Kaffe and José Corado of Corado Coffee Roasters. The win sends her to Brussels to represent Norway at the World Coffee Roasting Championship.

Kaffa’s Oslo roastery was also named Nordics Best Roaster earlier in 2026 at Nordic Coffee Fest, a separate regional competition open to roasters across the Nordic countries. Winning both in the same year makes Kaffa, in its own words, a double champion.
